The Photography Degree at Cardiff Arts Academy

The Photographic Practice degree is delivered in partnership with, and awarded by, Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Studying your Photography Degree at Cardiff Arts Academy allows you to progress through three academic levels, giving you the opportunity to develop a sustained body of  independent, commercially viable, practical work.

We will provide you with professional and academic development, enabling you to become a creative photographer with a full understanding of the needs  of the photographic and associated industries.

Level Four modules include:

  • Studio practice
  • Perspectives on photography
  • Darkroom

Level Five modules include:

  • Specialist photographic realisation
  • Multimedia
  • Expanding photographic possibilities

Level Six modules include:

  • Professional photographic practice
  • Dissertation

Entry Requirements

Students should possess at least:

  • A minimum of 3 A Levels at grade C or above or 96 UCAS points
  • A BTEC Extended Diploma or equivalent with MMM grade or
  • A BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies, Art & Design or
  • A mature student with a substantial portfolio of photographic work
  • Plus – a minimum of grade C in GCSE English

Course Content and Delivery:

  • The degree is assessed by coursework submission.
  • There are formal lectures, practical workshops and seminars.
  • Each year we have an international visit (Madrid 2017), and UK gallery and Location trips.

Level 4: Studio practice, Photo essay, Perspectives on photography, Darkroom, Photographic foundations

Level 5: Expanding photographic possibilities, Specialist photographic realisation, Negotiated practice, Multimedia

Level 6: Advanced independent practice, Dissertation, Professional photographic practice
